SANDPOINT — Senior Beckham Dodge scored the lone goal of the match in the third minute for the Timberwolves in a 1-0 Inland Empire League win over the Bulldogs at Memorial Field on Thursday.
“Our defense was once again outstanding,” Lake City coach Kevin Jump said. “We’ve won our two toughest games this season because our defense is so dominant and produced their fourth clean sheet. After Beckham tucked away a finish early in the game, I thought we might have an offensive explosion. For the entire first half, we controlled possession and had several quality shots — and were unfortunate not to be up three or four goals at halftime. In the second half, we had erratic spurts of play that allowed Sandpoint to have some success on getting forward. We’re going to look into making some adjustments so that we can find better chemistry in the attacking third.”
“We came out extremely timid and flat for the first 40 minutes — losing possession cheaply, which led to tired legs and tired minds as we defended the whole first half,” Sandpoint coach Tanner French said. “We didn’t make any adjustments at the break other than just giving the boys an opportunity to change the game.”
Lake City (5-0, 5-0 IEL) travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.
Sandpoint (3-2, 3-2) hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — After a quick feeling-out process, the turf at Viking Field was the right speed for the host school after all.
The Vikings, behind goals from Chief Allan, Kason Pintler and Milo Griebel, beat the Bears in a nonleague match, the boys' first match on the new artificial turf at Coeur d’Alene High.
“The field is a little more narrow and quick than what we’re used to playing on,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “We were trying to play more directly and the ball would go out of bounds or away from our feet. We started to play some touches, and once we adapted, you could tell we had the run of play.”
Ronan Sternberg scored in the 76th minute for Coeur d’Alene (5-1), which travels to Lewiston next Thursday.
First half — 1, Cd’A, Chief Allan (Elijah Raybell), 25:00. 2, Cd’A, Kason Pintler (penalty kick), 29:00. 3, Cd’A, Milo Griebel (Liam Martin), 38:00. Second half — 4, Cd’A, Ronan Sternberg (Ethan Luna), 76:00.
Shots on goal — Mos 3, Cd’A 10.
Saves — Mos, unknown, 3; Cd’A, Grant Johnson, 2.

RATHDRUM — With a goal of being more on the offensive, the Hawks were right with the Bulldogs in an Inland Empire League match at Sunrise Rotary Field.
But the Bulldogs were able to put away their chances in the second half as Marlee McCrum and Hope Barnes scored the only goals of the match.
“We knew coming into the match we weren’t just going to play defense against them,” said Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge, whose team outshot Sandpoint 15-12. “We had to be on the attack. They’ve got one of the best goalies in North Idaho (Lilliana Brinkmeier) and knew we had to get some shots on her. I was proud of how the girls played the entire game. In the second half, we made a couple of mistakes and they capitalized on it. Sandpoint’s a good team and we stepped up and played right with them.”
Lakeland (1-3-0, 1-3-0 IEL) travels to Moscow on Saturday at 9 a.m.
