Priest River 3, Newport 1

PRIEST RIVER — Priest River defeated cross-border rival Newport 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18) on Thursday at Priest River Lamanna High School.

“The team tonight was a new group of girls compared to last Friday when we played Clark Fork,” head coach Katlyn Ward said. “We saw the court, we hustled, moved on from mistakes, and held our heads high. We played tonight like a team, a team where we are all each other's number one fans.”

Allyson Barton and Paityn Yount led the Spartans attack; Barton recorded a team-high eight kills, while Yount recorded six of her own. Jayda Storro, per usual, was able to set her hitters up perfectly. She had 15 assists Thursday. Desi Humphrey also impressed, recording six aces behind the service line.

On defense, Aleigha Jensen had a huge game, reaching above the net to tally five blocks. Helena White had a team-high 14 digs, which helped keep a number of Spartans runs alive.

Priest River (1-1) will travel to Orofino to take on the Maniacs today.

Coeur d’Alene 3, Sandpoint 1

COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene defeated Sandpoint in four sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-10, 25-15) Thursday at Viking Court.

“We improved in a few areas since last week, but I wish we had more time between playing them last week to fix a few more of our weaknesses,” head coach Piper Wahlin said.

Taylor Payne and Belen Gonzales both contributed five kills each as well as three total blocks. Aubree Lane and Vivan Platte were all over the court on defense; the two combined for 35 digs on the night.

Sandpoint (6-5, 2-2) will face Lake City on Tuesday in Coeur d’Alene.

Clark Fork 3, Mullan 0

MULLAN — The Wampus Cats bounced back after losing to Wallce by sweeping conference rival Mullan, 3-0 (25-7, 25-22, 25-16) on Thursday.

Lilly Reutter led Clark Fork with a perfect serving night, where she racked up six aces and 13 assists. Eloise Shelton also came in clutch, posting a perfect passing record on the night.

“Eloise has been a great leader on defense and serve receive, as she posted her second perfect match of perfect passing this season,” head coach Lyndsie Kibert-Carey said.

On defense, Amari Printz-Hay and Piper Scarlett posted a combined 13 digs.

“Mullan played a scrappy game and caught us flat-footed in that second set,” Kiebert-Carey said. “We were able to recover and had some good swings to end the night.”

Clark Fork (5-2, 1-0) will host 3A Timberlake on Tuesday.
