The Bulldog golf team had a busy week with the Whitefish Triangular on Thursday followed by the two-day Kootenai Invite in Libby.
Glacier’s Sam Engellant carded a blistering 30 on the back of the south course with one of the most impressive nine holes that Whitefish Coach Tait Rocksund said he has ever seen while coaching high school golf.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs didn’t bring their A game for the home Triangular.
On the boy’s side, Ridley Brown shot an 82 and Otto Klein wasn’t far behind with an 84.
“Klein continues to improve his tournament play for us and has improved significantly over the course of the season,” Rocksund said.
Ava Zignego posted a 97, Leia Brennan a 100, and Karlee Brown shot just four more.
“Ava Zignego put up a solid round for our girls team and Karlee Brown has proven to be very consistent for us,” Rocksund said.
The next day, the team competed in the Kootenai Invite, a two-day tournament at the Cabinet View Golf Course in Libby.
Polson’s boys team came in first place, while Corvallis finished second and Whitefish took third place. Rocksund said he was pleased with the outing.
Reece Malyevac had another great tournament and won in Libby with a 141. Otton Klein was the best Bulldog on the day with a 156 over the two days.
“Ashton Taylor put up an impressive 83 at Libby, which is a fantastic round for a freshman,” Rocksund said. “Otto Klein’s 76 is one of the best rounds of his high school golf career. Otto continues to improve in each tournament and the boys team is trending the right direction heading into the divisional tournament on the 21st.”
Polson’s girls team also won first place in the tournament, with a score of 690. The Whitefish girls team finished in fifth place.
All four of the Whitefish girls shot the same two-day total of 216, to tie for 15th place at Libby.
“On the girls' side, we were fighting some fatigue which made the two-day tournament an endurance test,” Rocksund said. “Leia Brennan put up our team’s best round in the tournament with 100 at Libby on day two. Hopefully with some rest, we can come back recharged for the Kalispell Invite this week.”
The team’s next tournament is the Kalispell Invite on Sept. 13-14.
