Noxon netters top rival Troy

In the ultra-competitive thing called the Western 14C volleyball conference, winning two out of three is a good thing.
That’s just what the Noxon Lady Devils did this past week, and although one of their two victories was against non-conference foe Troy, it was a “W” nonetheless.
Noxon opened the week with a match against regional rival Troy, whom they had defeated on the Lady Trojans home court a few nights earlier.
The outcome of the return match, this time in Noxon, was no different as the Lady Devils fought off several Troy surges but did not give up their lead on the way to a 3-0 match win.
Savanna Richter paced a balanced Noxon effort with six service aces, nine kills, five assists and four digs. Mia Vogel led all servers with nine aces.
Two nights later Noxon traveled to Charlo where the home-standing Lady Vikings and their fans were fired up over a rare home court loss the Lady Devils inflicted upon them last season. This time Charlo won 3-0, much to the delight of a nearly full house gym.
Noxon played their third game of the week Saturday night at home versus the St. Regis Lady Tigers. The Devils made it 2-1 on the week with a 3-0 sweep of St. Regis.
Against Troy, Noxon jumped out to a slim lead and held on throughout the first set. They eked out a 25-19 win for a 1-0 match lead. The second set was even tighter as Troy battled throughout an action-packed second set before Noxon pulled away for a narrow 25-22 win and a 2-0 match lead.
The third set was pretty much all Noxon as they built an early lead and steadily pulled away for a 25-13 victory that sealed the 3-0 match sweep.
A full gym was awaiting the Noxon arrival Thursday night, with visions of revenge dancing in their minds after last year’s late season upset loss to the Lady Devils.
The first set saw Charlo take a 3-0 lead and never relinquish it, although Noxon kept closing the gap every time it looked like the Lady Vikes were going to pull away.
In the end, Charlo held off the Lady Devils for a 25-19 first set win.
Charlo had an easier time of things in the second set, pulling away mid-set to take a 16-7 lead. They went on to win the second set 25-9 and assumed a 2-0 match advantage.
In the third set, Charlo built an early 10-3 lead, then held off several small Noxon runs on their way to a 25-17 match/sweep clinching win.
Saturday the Noxon squad returned to their home court for a match with St. Regis. Noxon took control of the first set, building a 17-8 lead that produced a 25-8 first set win and a 1-0 match advantage.
They did more of the same in the second set, leading the Lady Tigers the rest of the way and capturing set number two 25-11.
The Lady Devils broke a 6-6 tie in the early going of set three, only to see St. Regis come back and tie the game at 10 and 13. From that point, Noxon was able to slowly build a 23-18 lead. They won the match-clinching set 25-19 and wrapped up the sweep to complete their busy week.
Noxon has a pair of home games on their schedule this week, hosting Hot Springs tonight (Tuesday) and Alberton this coming Saturday afternoon.
St. Regis is at home versus Charlo Thursday night, then travels to Pablo Saturday evening for a match with Two Eagle River.
