WEISER — The Badgers (1-2) got to the endzone in the fourth quarter, but 3A Weiser (3-0) executed on defensive miscues by Bonners Ferry and dominated on the field.

That strong play gave the Wolverines a 48-0 lead at the half as Weiser utilized its size and upperclassmen to take control against the younger Badger squad.

When comparing stats, the Wolverines had more options for receiving and rushing, spreading stats and yards across several players, while the Badgers only had six players that filled these roles.

The Badgers lost to Weiser last season during the quarterfinals of the Idaho 3A State Championship and are set to play Weiser in the pre-season for the next few years.

“Trey Bateman and Conrad Hiatt had a couple of nice catches,” said Bonners Ferry head coach Danny Swift. “Weiser has a great football team. It was a tough game but a great gauge for where we are and what we want to become.”

Swift has said the matchup against the Wolverines each year will be a challenge, especially since Weiser has 11 state championships under its belt. He believes in the direction of the Badger football program by facing Weiser and other state contenders before playoffs will only be beneficial to the program as a whole and team rankings.

Bonners Ferry football has one win, due to a forfeit from Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks, Alberta, in Canada. The Badgers will play at home for the first time this season on Friday against Connell High School at 7 p.m.

Volleyball goes into fourth match against Moscow

MOSCOW — Bonners Ferry volleyball (1-4) fell to the 4A Moscow (2-4) on Sept. 7, going 1-3.

The Badgers finished within three points of Moscow in the first two sets with 22-25, 22-25, but won the third 25-22, sending the match to a fourth set.

Moscow came back strong and won 16-25, winning 3-1.

The Badgers will play Clark Fork at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. and play in the Timberlake tournament on Sept. 16.
