Hot Springs rack up two more wins

It was a good, if not a dominating week for Hot Springs’ six-player football team.
They opened the week last Monday with a make-up game against Alberton that had been postponed a week earlier because the Panthers could not field a team of six players.
And it closed with a convincing 39-19 win on the road over a previously unbeaten Lincoln team this past Saturday afternoon.
The Savage Heat opened their make-up game with Alberton Monday evening by returning the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown and a quick 8-0 lead when the PAT kick was good.
Soon thereafter the Heat scored again and kept scoring on their way to a big halftime lead and, ultimately a 65-0 win over the visiting Tigers. Alberton had just seven healthy players for the game against Hot Springs and were out-manned and outgunned from the start.
The Mercy Rule, which keeps the clock running except for time outs like injuries, change of possession and called timeouts, was in effect by the end of the first quarter.
With reserves playing most of the second half, Hot Springs ran their season record to 3-0 with the win over Alberton.
Saturday, the Heat journeyed to Lincoln for a meeting with the then 3-0 Lynx. Hot Springs opened the game scoring on a drive-capping one yard run by for six by junior David Chapman. A successful two-point kick by senior Quincy Styles-Depoe split the uprights, giving Hot Springs a quick 8-0 lead.
Not long after that Savage Heat junior quarterback Nick McAllister broke free on a 51-yard TD run that, when the PAT was no good, boosted Hot Springs to a 14-0 lead.
Lincoln mounted a drive on their next possession and topped it off with a two-yard scoring run, cutting the lead to 14-6.
However, Chapman took the ensuing kickoff and rumbled 72 yards for a touchdown to give the Heat a 20-6 lead as time ran out in the first quarter of play.
Hot Springs added to their lead in the second quarter when Depoe snared a 14-yard scoring pass from McAllister, giving the home team a 26-6 lead as time expired in the opening half.
The two teams traded touchdowns in a busy third quarter, which opened with Chapman scoring his third TD of the game on a two-yard plunge. He then caught a PAT pass to boost the Hot Springs advantage to 33-6.
Lincoln came back with a touchdown via a six-yard run, then watched as the Heat’s John Waterbury hauled in a four-yard TD pass from McAllister, making the score 39-12 in favor of the visitors.
Lincoln scored again before the third quarter ended, this one on a 48-yard touchdown scamper by Brown. The PAT was good, putting the score at 39-19, Hot Springs.
Neither team scored in the final quarter.
Hot Springs returns to its home turf this Friday night at 7pm for their homecoming game versus conference foe Gardner.
The two wins upped the Savage Heat’s season record to 4-0.
