PREP GOLF: Sandpoint girls win team title at Hayden Lake
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 years, 3 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | September 23, 2023 1:00 AM
HAYDEN — The Sandpoint girls golf team won the team title at the Sue Mitchell Invitational held at the Hayden Lakes Country Club on Friday. The Bulldogs beat out Coeur d’Alene, Lewiston and Post Falls.
Taylor Mire shot an 86 for Sandpoint, the third best overall score on the day. Reagan Samuels had an outstanding day; her score of 91 was good for fourth overall. Alexa Tuinstra rounded out the top five players with a score of 92. The girls finished with a score of 369, five strokes better than Lewiston.
“The girls’ swings are looking great,” head coach Mike Deprez said. “We just need to get a little more consistent and sharpen our game inside 50 yards.”
The boys finished seventh Friday at the Avondale Golf Course in Hayden. Micah Young scored an 89 to lead the Bulldogs. Freshman Rajah Brown was second for Sandpoint, shooting a 96. Aidan Rork finished not too far behind Brown with a 97. Sandpoint finished with a total score of 384 and only ahead of Post Falls.
Deprez said both courses were beautiful. He described the Hayden Lakes course as a fast course with short greens and deep bunkers and the Avondale course as a longer course with fast greens.
The Sandpoint golf team hosts their first invitational of the season at The Idaho Club on Monday.
