Graduation was not good to the Superior Lady Bobcats volleyball team.

Heavy losses of some talented senior leaders has translated into a young team searching for their first match victory of the year.

This past week was not kind to the Lady Bobcats on either end of the opponent scale.

They began their week against another team looking for its first win of the season, the Troy Lady Trojans, and although it was a close hard-fought match, the results were the same for Superior.

The Cats lost a hard-fought first set to Troy, falling 26-24 and giving the Trojans a 1-0 match lead. Troy came back and won the next set, 25-15 to go up 2-0.

The third set was much like the first, with both teams fighting for an edge, which eventually went to the Lady Trojans who came out on top 25-22 to complete a 3-0 sweep on the Bobcats home court.

And it didn’t get any easier this past Saturday night for Superior when they traveled to once-beaten Eureka for a contest with the Lady Lions.

Eureka jumped out to a 25-7 first set lead, then took a commanding match lead when they captured the second set, 25-12. The Lions completed the sweep with a 25-9 third set victory, sending the Lady Cats to their eighth loss of the year against no wins.

Eureka’s Kara Stanger had a good match for the Lions, recording six service aces and 11 kills shots. Teammates Hailey Judd had a match high 14 assists while Sophie Vaughn produced 10 digs.

Superior had six digs apiece from Shaylie Smalley and Braelynn Mangold.

The Bobcats will attempt to right the ship this Tuesday (tonight) when they host Seeley, then travel to Mission for a Thursday match with the Bulldogs.
