NIC GOLF: Cardinal teams take third in fall opener

DUPONT, Wash. — Cole Jaworski, a sophomore from Coeur d’Alene High, finished second for the Community Colleges of Spokane with a 2-under 142 at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at The Home Course.
Marcus Otto of Pacific Lutheran won with a 73-68—141.
North Idaho College sophomore Josh McCartain was fifth (74-71—145), helping lead the Cardinals to third in the 10-team tournament.
NIC sophomore Laila Jalil finished tied for eighth with a 79-79—158. NIC’s women finished third.
"Conditions were pretty tough out there both days, with heavy rain that led to standing water on the greens and heavy winds up to 25-30 mph," NIC men's and women's coach Russell Grove said.
Whitman swept the team titles.
NIC competes in the Beartooth Invitational hosted by Rocky Mountain College next Monday and Tuesday at Laurel (Mont.) Golf Club.
