POST FALLS — Junior Caleb Jimmerson hit a bases-clearing double in a five-run bottom of the third inning for Post Falls, which beat the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 9-1 in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Post Falls High on Tuesday.

Austin DeBoer, who signed with Washington State last month, struck out five over six innings, allowing two hits for Post Falls. Marshall Tomlinson and Kyler Cooley had two RBIs each in the opener for the Trojans.

“We had a good first game,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “Austin pitched really well and Caleb cashed in with a big hit, but we left a lot of runners on base (seven) and had multiple chances to score.”

In the nightcap, Coeur d’Alene Nolan Christ, who has signed with Centralia of the NWAC, had three hits, four RBIs and three runs scored as the Vikings beat the Trojans 11-1 in five innings to get the split.

Senior Aidan Blanco struck out seven in the second game for Coeur d’Alene (4-4, 2-2 IEL), which travels to Lakeland for a doubleheader on Saturday.

“Aidan threw a gem in the second game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns said. “Defensively, we made some plays behind him and we were pleased with the tone he set on the mound. In that first game, we didn’t play the kind of baseball we want to play, but we’re trending in the right direction, but it’s going to come down to throwing strikes.”

“Aidan threw really well in the second game,” Reese said. “We just couldn’t get anything going. It’s still early and we’re trying to figure out some things and get some guys some work. Both of us are still trying to fit the pieces where they’ll fit going down the stretch.”

Post Falls (6-1, 3-1) hosts Lewiston for a doubleheader on Saturday.

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — Senior Caden Robinett allowed two hits and struck out 10 for the Tigers, who scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to rally past the Cardinals at Medical Lake High.

“Caden, he’s just Mr. Consistency,” Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. “He threw 103 pitches and 73 were strikes. We had a few errors, but he did a good job of damage control and keeping them on their heels. He was just great tonight.”

Junior James Moore doubled and tripled for Timberlake (5-4-1), which hosts Frenchtown, Mont., on Thursday.

“Medical Lake is a good team, and it was a really good game for us out of spring break,” Johnson said. “We were a little passive early on at the plate and got into some really bad counts. We talked before the fifth inning about getting more aggressive and changing our approach. James really sparked us with his triple and it became contagious after that. We started to find more success swinging early and I was happy that the boys made that shift to get it done.”

Medical Lake is 6-5.
