LPOSD meeting to cover policy revisions

I graduated from California Baptist University in April 2021 and was ready for a change of scenery, which is what brought me to North Idaho. Currently, I’m enjoying being newly married. My husband and I spend our weekends huckleberry picking, working on home improvement projects, taking my husky Judah on walks, spoiling our kitten Opal, and making plans to travel while we earn the means to do so. I love hanging out with family, studying indigenous arts and culture, going on outdoor adventures and creating wood-burning projects. I’m also always down for a casual debate about anything from philosophy and politics to the best local coffee shops. My childhood was filled with dreams of working in almost every field — archeologist, architect, writer, historian, aviator and mathematician were just a few titles I hoped to hold one day. After my first semester in college, I found myself wondering how choosing a major was ever going to be in the cards for me. But, with a little help from friends and family, I realized that the title of “journalist” is a good title for someone who is interested in a little bit of everything. When you can’t be everything, you can always write about everything. | April 6, 2024 1:00 AM
PONDERAY — The Lake Pend Oreille School District board of trustees will be meeting Tuesday to discuss revisions to student conduct policy and sexual harassment policy among other items.
These two policies will see minor changes including an address change, and a short phrase that clarifies that student conduct code will be distributed through student handbooks.
Another policy revision being introduced includes added language on advancement opportunities, and details about career technical education programs, advanced placement classes, and other college-credit bearing or professional certificate examinations within LPOSD schools.
Policies seeing their second reading will include a revision adding the district’s name to a school restrooms and changing facilities policy, and a new cybersecurity and data breach response policy.
The cybersecurity and data breach response policy aims to prevent data breaches and ensure that any breaches are addressed quickly and appropriately, the policy states.
The board will also go into executive session as provided for in Idaho Code to consider the evaluation, dismissal or disciplining of, or to hear complaints or charges brought against, a public officer, employee, staff member or individual agent, or public school student, LPOSD officials said in the meeting agenda.
Executive sessions are closed to the public to give officials a chance to discuss confidential information; however, all decisions must be made in open session.
The board will also observe presentations from Sagle Elementary School students, Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer, and chief financial officer Brian Wallace.
The meeting will take place today at 5 p.m. at the LPOSD District Office, 901 Triangle Drive, Ponderay.
