FBCS parent hosts pancake breakfast fundraiser

I graduated from California Baptist University in April 2021 and was ready for a change of scenery, which is what brought me to North Idaho. Currently, I’m enjoying being newly married. My husband and I spend our weekends huckleberry picking, working on home improvement projects, taking my husky Judah on walks, spoiling our kitten Opal, and making plans to travel while we earn the means to do so. I love hanging out with family, studying indigenous arts and culture, going on outdoor adventures and creating wood-burning projects. I’m also always down for a casual debate about anything from philosophy and politics to the best local coffee shops. My childhood was filled with dreams of working in almost every field — archeologist, architect, writer, historian, aviator and mathematician were just a few titles I hoped to hold one day. After my first semester in college, I found myself wondering how choosing a major was ever going to be in the cards for me. But, with a little help from friends and family, I realized that the title of “journalist” is a good title for someone who is interested in a little bit of everything. When you can’t be everything, you can always write about everything. | April 11, 2024 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Enjoy a stack of pancakes while supporting Forrest Bird Charter School’s upcoming Yellowstone trip through an April 20 fundraiser.

Community, camaraderie and delicious pancakes are just a few of the things organizers say will be offered.

Laura Clemmons, a parent of a FBCS student, is organizing the event.

“My daughter is an eighth grader at FBCS,” she said. “I wanted to help support the eight graders to get to go on their trip. They still need a lot of money to get to go.”

Clemmons will be preparing the food along with help from students.

“I was a chef at a catering facility for years so cooking and bringing the community together for a common purpose and a good breakfast seemed like a great way to raise money and  get to know each other better,” she said. “The students are welcome to help and so many have signed up already.”

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gardenia Center, 400 Church St. A silent auction and treat sale will also offer opportunities to contribute.

Proceeds will benefit an end-of-year field trip to Yellowstone National Park for FBCS eighth grade students.

FBCS is a free, public charter school that provides students with a project-based education with a mastery focus to meet their educational goals, FBCS officials said.

General tickets are $10 per person while family tickets for four people are $20.

Sandpoint mayor cancels remote comments

Commenting on the city's public meetings remotely will no longer be permitted as of the June 5 council meeting. This decision was made by Sandpoint Mayor Jeremy Grimm after “disturbing” comments were made by remote commenters at the May 15 meeting regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. That meeting marks the second occurrence of such comments since last fall.
