COEUR d’ALENE — Two of the area’s most popular fun runs that act as fundraisers for nonprofits are coming up this month.

The 42nd annual Spring Dash that benefits United Way of North Idaho is scheduled April 27. It will include a 5K, 10K, half marathon and a Tot Trot. All are out-and-back courses that start and end at McEuen Park and offer views of Lake Coeur d’Alene.

The Spring Dash began in 1982. It is considered a kickoff to the running season and is a second-seed qualifier for Bloomsday in Spokane. It generally attracts several hundred runners.

Registration includes a T-shirt and refreshments.

The 5K is $35, 10K is $45, half marathon is $60 and the Tot Trot is $10.

The Hauser Lake Icebreaker Run is set for April 20 and includes a 5K and 10K, with the longer race circling the lake.

The race is a fundraiser for Double J Dog Ranch, a sanctuary and rescue in Hauser for dogs with special needs.

The event was canceled last year when the field where the majority of people park was covered with snow and mud.

Organizers moved this year’s race from the first Sunday to later in the month to give the field more time to dry out and have hopes for a record turnout.

The Icebreaker generally attracts about 700 runners and raises around $15,000 for the Double J Dog Ranch.

Registration includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Food trucks, a beer garden, auction and kids activities will also be on hand, as will some of the dogs from Double J. 

Both the 5K and the 10K are $35 until April 19. The race is also a qualifier for second-seeding at Bloomsday, which is May 5.
