PREP SOFTBALL: Hill big in opener as Lake City, Lewiston split

LEWISTON — Taylor Hill went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer in a nine-run fifth inning, as the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Lewiston Bengals 15-8 in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Airport Park.
Lewiston won the second game 10-5.
Lake City (7-3, 5-1 IEL) trailed 6-3 heading into the fifth in the opener. Layla Gugino tripled home two runs in the inning for the Timberwolves, and Sammie Chavez added a three-run triple. Chavez finished with four RBIs, Gugino three, and KaeLee Kolden was 2 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
Jenna Barney hit a two-run homer in the first inning for Lewiston (6-6, 6-2).
In the second game, Ashland Schnell of Lewiston hit a three-run homer in the second inning, and the Bengals led 8-1 after three. Morgan Thayer struck out 12 for Lewiston.
Kolden was 2 for 3 with two triples, two RBIs and two runs, and Karsyn DeMent was 3 for 4 with a triple and double.
Lake City travels to Coeur d’Alene (7-3, 5-1) on Tuesday for an IEL doubleheader pitting the two teams tied for first in the league.

RATHDRUM — Junior Alexis Hanna homered, drove in three runs and scored four as the host Hawks rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Eagles of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., in nonleague play.
Delilah Zimmerman also homered for Lakeland (3-5), and finished 3 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Kiersten Drake went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Hawks, and her run-scoring single in the fifth snapped a 7-7 tie. Hanna hit a two-run homer in the fourth.
Lakeside is 5-7.

PRIEST RIVER — Senior Lexie Brebner drove in six runs and scored seven on the day for the Lumberjacks, who swept the Spartans in a Central Idaho League doubleheader at Priest River High for their first wins of the season.

St. Maries hosts Kellogg on Tuesday.
