PREP GIRLS LACROSSE: Sandpoint splits in Tri-Cities
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 11 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 15, 2024 5:30 PM
TRI-CITIES, Wash. — The Bulldogs took down Kamiakin, 11-6, but fell to Richland-Hanford, 5-4, in a pair of matches at Kamiakin and Richland High on Saturday.
In Game 1 against Kamiakin, Sandpoint used a five-goal second quarter to take the lead and never looked back. Rowan Davis had four goals, Cassidy Aitken three for the Bulldogs. Marin Browne recorded season-highs in both assists (two) and groundballs (four) to help propel Sandpoint to victory.
In Game 2 against Richland-Hanford, the Bombers outscored Sandpoint 3-1 in the second half to complete the upset. Terra Bode and Aitken led the Bulldogs with one goal and one assist each.
“They just wanted that game more than we did,” head coach Nancy Dooley said. “They were more physical than us. We had 27 shots on goal but just couldn’t get anything to land in the net. We also had 22 turnovers. We were just frazzled. However, with every setback, there’s a chance for a comeback and I think all 16 of our players are going to show up when we see them again on Saturday."
Dooley said Cecilia Dignan really shined during the doubleheader, causing four opponent turnovers in each game. Alongside Dignan, Dooley said Maddie Mitchell, Grace Gavin, Abigail Baker, and Leah Clark were stellar on defense.
Sandpoint (4-2) will host Gonzaga Prep on Wednesday.
