Tigers defeat Othello in league meet

EPHRATA — Boys and girls track and field teams from Othello and Ephrata met for their first league meet of the season Thursday, with the Tigers defeating the Huskies on both the boys and girls side of the meet.
The Ephrata boys picked up a 113-28 win, while the boys won 107-38.
In the boys meet, Othello had two athletes win their respective events; senior Alex Mendez came first in the 100-meter dash (11.57 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (23.49 seconds) and freshman Luke Ross’ distance of 19 feet, one-quarter inch was the furthest in the long jump.
Ephrata sophomore Anderson Addink (400-meter dash, 56.14 seconds), senior Hayden Roberts (800-meter run, 1:56.8 minutes; 1600-meter run, 4:38.58 minutes), sophomore Maddax Iverson (3,200-meter run, 11:29.18 minutes), sophomore Jacob Reyes (110-meter hurdles, 18.54 seconds; 300-meter hurdles, 46.4 seconds), senior Jaxon Elliott (shot put, 47 feet five inches) junior Gage Nash (discus, 155 feet 10.5 inches), junior Cole Roduner (javelin, 144 feet eight inches), freshman Jose Barrita (high jump, five feet), junior Carter Schultz (pole vault, 10 feet six inches) and sophomore Brice Strickler (triple jump, 35 feet eight inches) all won their events.
Ephrata also won both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays with times of 47.09 seconds and 3:51.98 minutes, respectively.
Othello had three event wins in the girls meet; sophomore Abigail Douglas won both the 100-meter dash (12.92 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (27.31 seconds), and junior Samantha Arreola won the high jump (three feet, six inches).
Tiger junior Makaena Judkins won the 400-meter dash (1:04.59 minutes), senior Dorismar Ochoa Sanchez won the 800-meter run (3:00.09 minutes), freshman Hannah Malone won the 1600-meter and the 3,200-meter runs (5:54.01, 12:49.62 minutes respectively), freshman Eliana Moser won the 100-meter hurdles (17.47 seconds) and the long jump (15 feet, 5-and-a-half inches), senior Emily Ellsworth won the 300-meter hurdles (52.26 seconds), senior Mckenzie Paullin won both the shot put (36 feet, 4-and-a-half inches) and the discus (111 feet, 4-and-a-half inches), sophomore Lacey Burton won the javelin (82 feet, 10 inches) junior Adelyn Simmons won the pole vault (9 feet) and senior Noemi Vallejo won the triple jump (31 feet, 6-and-a-quarter inches).
The Tigers came out on top of both relays, recording a time of 53.92 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay and running the 4x400-meter relay in 4:30.26 minutes.
Othello’s next league meet is Thursday on the road against Grandview and Prosser, while the Tigers head to East Valley on Thursday for a league meet against the Red Devils.
