100 Years Ago 

The need for a municipal garbage incinerator was brought forcefully to the attention of the Commercial Club Monday evening when it was announced that merchants of the city have been driven from one garbage dumping grounds to another until at present they have no proper place to dispose of refuse. Another important matter to come before the club on Monday was the destruction of the huckleberry patches in the county by a band of sheep brought in from another state under grazing permits issued by the forestry department. 

Ralph Clapp, manager of the Bonners Ferry Grain and Milling Company, announces that he has ordered a large hammer mill feed grinder which will soon be installed in the company's new building. The machine, he says will grind anything from bone to alfalfa meal, in a capacity of from 1,500 to 3,000 pounds per hour, according to the material and degree of fineness desired. 

50 Years Ago

The Boundary County Sheriff's Office reported today, Thursday, that the 21-foot travel trailer stolen June 24 from the Harshaw lot on Route 95, Bonners Ferry, apparently was taken by the three men involved in the recent jailbreak in Sandpoint. 

This year's Kootenai River Days was the biggest ever in history. A number of visitors from Montana and Washington state said that among the many towns in the area that have summer celebrations of one sort or another, the Kootenai River Days is becoming known as "the one to visit." 

With a minimum of fanfare, Mirror Lake Golf Course opened just south of Bonners Ferry during the past weekend and is available daily to all persons interested in playing the game. 

15 Years Ago 

The presence of American white pelicans in North Idaho is becoming more and more common, including at McArthur Lake, where about 20 have made their temporary home for four weeks. 

Ken Irons hopes to showcase his latest project- a 1948-49 Co-Op- during a parade of tractors on Saturday, Aug. 8. It's one of the first outings for the newly formed Antique Tractor Club in Bonners Ferry.  

A suspected car thief, who ran from police and remained at large for three days, was caught on July 23 picking huckleberries.
