MATTAWA — The Mattawa Police Department would like to remind citizens that there is a noise ordinance, according to a statement released Saturday. Mattawa Municipal Code Chapter 9.08 Noise Control provides a breakdown on what is and is not allowed within city limits. The statement breaks down some of the rules.  

“It is unlawful for any person to cause, or for any person in possession of property to allow to originate from the property, sound that is a public disturbance noise,” the MPD wrote. 

Examples given of this are motor vehicle audio systems that can be heard from at least 50 feet from the source. Any sound from audio equipment, instruments, or similar devices that can be audible from 50 feet away. Violation of the noise ordinance can result in a civil infraction with a mandatory minimum penalty.  

The statement asks that anyone who sees a violation of the noise ordinance contact the Mattawa Police Department at 509-762-1160. 

MATTAWA — The Mattawa Police Department released a statement about using wheeled all-terrain vehicles on public roadways of Mattawa. The department would like to remind residents that although WATV are allowed on roadways there are regulations. First, the driver must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver’s license. Second, they must follow all the registration requirements laid out in 46.09 RCW. Next, the driver must have proof of liability insurance. Finally, the WATV must have the listed equipment, found in the photo.  

The statement asks that if you see a violation of these rules to contact the Mattawa Police Department at 509-762-1160. For those with questions, comments, or concerns, the statement asks that you attend city council meetings, which are held every first and third Thursday. 

MOSES LAKE — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Sunday saying that the Grant County Fair’s Saturday was successful, as only a few juveniles were expelled, and one juvenile was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.  

MOSES LAKE — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Sunday about a man being taken into custody. The suspect, 25-year-old Angel Andrade Arriaga was lodged in the Grant County Jail for investigation of first-degree arson, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and first-degree malicious mischief.  

Arriaga used a steel bar to break the windows of several cars and pulled a butcher’s knife on officers.  

GCSO received a call at around 4 p.m. Sunday to help Grant County Fire District 5 and Moses Lake Fire Department at a house fire on Lee Drive. According to the press release there was a man reported carrying a steel bar walking away from the home just after the fire was noticed. 

Sheriff’s Deputies found the suspect walking on Valley Road near Ottmar Road. According to the press release, Arriaga was confronted by the deputies and did not obey orders to drop the steel bar. During the confrontation, the man pulled out a butcher knife.  

Deputies continued de-escalation and commanded the man to drop the steel bar and butcher knife. Eventually, Arriaga complied and dropped the knife, however, he used the steel bar to smash the windows of nearby parked cars. With the help of Moses Lake Police Department, GCSO used less lethal weapons, including tasers and bean bag projectiles, which had an insignificant effect on Arriaga.  

According to the press release, deputies drew guns; however, no shots were fired.  

MOSES LAKE — Two juveniles were detained for possessing handguns at the Grant County Fair Thursday, according to a statement from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. One juvenile was arrested and booked into the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Facility. The other juvenile was released to his parents since at that time it could not be proven that the juvenile didn’t just find the handgun and pick it up. The GCSO must have probable cause to make an arrest. According to their statement, as of Monday, GCSO did not have enough facts to meet that standard. There are no connections between Thursday night’s incidents and the shooting on Friday night, the GCSO wrote.
