I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | August 21, 2024 5:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint High senior Drew Lehman, starting quarterback of the Bulldogs’ football team, was recently named to a list of top 10 quarterbacks in the state by Idahosports.com.

As a junior, Lehman, who stands at 6 feet and 1 inch tall and weighs 190 pounds, was named the 4A Inland Empire League Offensive Player of the Year. Despite the run-heavy nature of Sandpoint’s offense, Lehman threw for 1,545 yards and for 12 touchdowns over the course of nine games at quarterback. He also rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns.

The top 10 list includes eight seniors and two juniors from every corner of the state. In addition to Lehman, these other quarterbacks were named to the list: Mack Jensen, Burley, sr.; Preston Wood, Carey, sr.; Caden Symons, Coeur d’Alene, jr.; Connor Perkins, Dietrich, sr.; Tristan Rea, Filer, jr.; David Kludt, Kamiah, sr.; Zeke Martinez, Meridian, sr.; Noah Velasco, Moscow, sr.; Josh Hardy, Valley, sr.

Sandpoint's first game is against Twin Falls on Friday at War Memorial Field, 7 p.m. Read a preview of the team and check out the Bulldogs' full schedule in the Daily Bee Fall Sports Preview which will be published Friday.
