LOCAL WATCH: Former Vik Swider scores twice in opener for Gonzaga men

Gonzaga 4, Northwest 1: At Spokane, Chris Swider, a senior midfielder from Coeur d’Alene, scored 34 seconds into the second half for the Bulldogs in a season-opening win over the NAIA Eagles of Kirkland, Wash., at Luger Field. Swider scored against six minutes later for Gonzaga.
COLLEGE WOMEN
Washington State 3, Montana 0: Nadia Cooper had five saves for the Cougars (1-1-0) in a victory over the Grizzlies (2-1-0) at the Lower Soccer Field. It was the first meeting between the programs since WSU beat Montana 3-0 in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
Gonzaga 1, California 1: At Berkeley, Calif., Erin Ewers scored her first goal as a Bulldog, tying the match in the 58th minute of a draw with the Golden Bears (1-1-1).
Idaho 2, Cal State Northridge 1: At Northridge, Calif., Karli Yoshida-Williams scored in the 53rd minute for the Vandals (2-1-0) in a nonconference win over the Matadors (0-3) at the Matador Soccer Field.
