PREP VOLLEYBALL: Priest River rallies past Timberlake in opener

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 3 months AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | August 28, 2024 11:45 AM

“Our girls took a loss in the first match and turned the game around,” head coach Katlyn Ward said. “Very proud of these hard working girls.”

Senior Desi Humprhey had 15 kills, junior Aleigha Jensen three blocks, and junior Toni Marinello 20 digs, all team-highs, in the victory. It is the Lady Spartans’ first win over Timberlake since the 2020 season.

Priest River (1-0) hosts St. Maries on Thursday.

Lane, Scarlett off to strong start despite Wampus Cat loss

Lakeside 3, Clark Fork 0

PLUMMER — Junior Aurora Lane had a team-high four aces and 11 assists as the Lady Cats fell to Lady Knights 3-0 (13-25, 12-25, 16-25) in a 2A Scenic Idaho Conference matchup held at Lakeside High on Tuesday.

“Lakeside served tough, and our serve receive reflected it,” head coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey. “We had a hard time getting in system, but there were also some huge positives from the night, like working the kinks out of a new rotation and seeing this new team really maintain their cool and support one another.”

Junior Piper Scarlett added five kills, sophomore Nora-Jean Hoy four kills, four assists and two aces in the loss.

“We built momentum in that third set and I was able to see the scrappy, aggressive team I know from practice,” coach Kiebert-Carey said. “We have a solid base upon which to build our season.”

Clark Fork (0-1) travels to Timberlake on Thursday.
