PREP GOLF: Mire leads Sandpoint girls to second place finish at Lake City Invitational

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 3 months AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | August 29, 2024 6:00 PM

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Taylor Mire carded a five-over-par 77, which tied for second place overall, and the Sandpoint High girls’ golf team took second at the Lake City Invitational held Thursday at the Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course.

Following Mire was senior Alexa Tuinstra, who carded an 86, good enough for sixth overall. Senior Demi Driggs scored an 88, senior Raegan Samuels a 90 to give Sandpoint a total score of 341, 32 strokes behind Coeur d’Alene but well ahead of everyone else. Claire Loutzenhiser carded a 96 in the No. 5 spot for the Lady Bulldogs.

For the boys, all of Sandpoint’s top four finished within one stroke of each other. Juniors Everett Gilman and Micah Young posted scores of 82 while sophomore Bode Eacret and junior Logan Roos had 83’s. Grady Kelly shot a 90 in the No. 5 spot. The Bulldogs scored 330 overall and finished fourth, three strokes in front of Lewiston and just five behind Lakeland.
