PREP VOLLEYBALL: Kootenai wins for first time since 2019

MULLAN — Kootenai notched a breakthrough victory on Thursday. 

The Warriors beat Mullan 25-12, 25-21, 25-13 in North Star League play, for their first victory since the 2019 season, and first league win since 2018. 

Kootenai (1-1, 1-1 NSL) had lost 67 straight matches since beating the Kellogg junior varsity in the Warriors’ season opener in 2019.

Kootenai’s last league win came over Mullan in 2018.  

“I’m extremely proud of my team,” second-year Kootenai coach Elexus Moore-Rich said. “They pushed themselves tonight; all their hard work has paid off.” 

Kootenai travels to Genesis Prep on Tuesday. 

“Sadie Rose Davidson had multiple spikes, Brooklyn Charles had amazing serves, and Danielle Myers was great at setting during the last set,” Moore-Rich said. “She’s new to setting and was terrific tonight.”

It was the season opener for Mullan, which plays host to Lakeside on Tuesday.

Sandpoint 

COEUR d’ALENE — Lizzy Hardy had 13 assists, Hannah Shafer eight as the Vikings swept the Bulldogs 25-14, 25-11, 25-8 in Inland Empire League play at Viking Court. 

Aiva Reed had five aces and three blocks for Coeur d’Alene (10-0, 2-0 IEL). Paisley Goings had nine kills and two blocks, Kaydence Green nine kills, Bridget Maiani 20 digs. 

“We've been working with setters on distributing the ball and creating one-ups for our attackers, which led to a very well-rounded offense tonight,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “We have three setters that we rotate (the third, Bevin Green, had six digs and two aces), and all did an amazing job. Kudos to our middles (Reed and Gianna Callari) for making themselves available and closing the blocks." 

It was the league opener for Sandpoint (0-2). 

Coeur d’Alene plays host to Post Falls on Tuesday.

Post Falls 

RATHDRUM — Ziya Munyer had 11 kills and seven blocks as the host Hawks downed the Trojans 25-19, 25-16, 21-25, 25-15 in nonleague play at Hawk Court. 

Olivia Zazuetta had 37 assists for Lakeland (1-1), Addy Jo Hocking 15 digs, Landree Simon three aces. 

“We played aggressively tonight," Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “I’m proud of the teamwork and communication my team had tonight. Liv (Zazuetta) displayed excellent leadership on the court, consistently setting up plays and maintaining the team's rhythm. Ziya was dominant at the net, both in attack and defense.” 

For Post Falls (1-1), Trinity Byrne had 11 kills and two blocks, Vanessa Kison eight kills, four blocks and two aces, Lucy Carr five assists and seven digs, Lexi Norisada 14 digs, Claire Ziegler and Zuri Blood four assists each, Kaela Gump two blocks. 

Post Falls travels to Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday. 

Lakeland visits Lake City on Thursday. 

Timberlake d. 

Clark Fork 

SPIRIT LAKE — Freshman Addie Archer had five kills and six aces as the host Tigers beat the Wampus Cats 25-7, 25-11, 25-18, giving first-year Timberlake coach Lisa Gardom her first victory. 

Gardom, a former assistant, succeeded Michelle Garwood, who started the program in 1998. 

Sophia Soumas had 24 assists and three kills for Timberlake (1-2). Isabelle Torr had 11 digs, Madison Miller four kills, Rilynn Kaiser four aces. 

Clark Fork dipped to 0-2. 

Timberlake travels to Kellogg on Tuesday. 

Priest River d. 

St. Maries 

PRIEST RIVER — The Lumberjacks (1-1) fell to the Spartans (2-0) 25-16, 25-16, 25-19 in the Central Idaho League opener for both. 

St. Maries plays host to Kellogg on Thursday.

Coeur du Christ 

PLUMMER — Junior Tylah Lambert totaled 14 assists, 10 aces, six kills and three digs as the host Knights bounced back from a first-set loss to beat the Saints 19-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-12 in nonleague play at Ron Miller Court. 

Kimberly Pluff added seven kills, four digs and two aces for Lakeside (2-0). Rayna Schatz had four aces and three digs, Saydee Peone five kills and three aces, Laila Charley three kills and five digs, Allisue Hendrickx five digs and three aces. 

“Awesome serving from my Knights all the way around tonight,” first-year Lakeside coach Devyn Moore said. “Tylah played a great game tonight. She’s a hustler, and added some awesome kills. Allisue was my back row star tonight. Her stats may not show it but that girl was all over the place tonight. Laila is so fast, she picks up every ball that’s anywhere even close to her. She also had a great game passing, and definitely is dialing in on her attacks.” 

Coeur du Christ (1-1) travels to Clark Fork on Tuesday. 

Lakeside travels to Mullan on Tuesday.
