SANDPOINT — On Sept. 3, the existing trio of Bonner County commissioners will host a business meeting for the last time.

The board of commissioners is headed toward a shakeup following Commissioner Luke Omodt’s Aug. 20 resignation, effective Sept. 7.

After Omodt vacates the seat, the Bonner County Republican Central Committee will submit a list of three potential replacements to Gov. Brad Little, who will appoint one to the post within 15 days.

According to Central Committee Chair Scott Herndon, Ron Korn, the Republican nominee for the position in the November election, will be the priority candidate on the list of replacements sent to the governor.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the commissioners will work through an agenda that features a trio of items brought forth by Sheriff Daryl Wheeler, which include the proposed renewal of two agreements for law enforcement and prosecution services.

If approved, the agreements will require the Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement services within the city limits of Oldtown and Dover for two years at a cost of $100 per month for each municipality.

Wheeler will also present a proposed one-year medical services contract for the county’s detention center. The $51,400 agreement would compensate Troy W. Geyman, M.D., for providing care services at the facility.

Additionally, commissioners will hear from Solid Waste Director Bob Howard as the department seeks approval to issue a request for bid to remove scrap metal at the Dickensheet, Idaho Hill, and Colburn waste transfer sites.

The service will not cost Bonner County, and if issued, officials will review bids based on the per-ton compensation offered to the county for scrap metal.

The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at the Bonner County Administration Building, 1500 U.S. 2, and livestreamed on the Bonner County YouTube page at bit.ly/3NElj9X.
