PREP FOOTBALL: Grangeville scores on last play to stun Timberlake

SPIRIT LAKE — Leading 36-32, Timberlake fumbled on fourth down and goal from the Grangeville 1-yard line. 

Grangeville drove 97 yards in the final 1:30, scoring on an 18-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the game to hand the Tigers a 38-36 loss at Van Tuinstra Memorial Stadium.

“I told the kids after the game, when you have an opportunity, you have to make a play,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “We had some untimely penalties that really made it hard for us.”

Cayden Knight ran for 131 yards and a 20-yard touchdown for Timberlake.

Grangeville quarterback David Goicoa threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns.

“Grangeville has a good line and they were able to run the ball against us,” Amos said. “They had to drive the field at the end, but we struggled to stop possessions.”

Timberlake (0-2) travels to West Valley next Friday.

ST. MARIES — Braden Buckenhout and Drew Lehman threw for two touchdowns each as the 5A Bulldogs beat the 3A Lumberjacks at St. Maries High, in the teams’ first meeting since 1988.

St. Maries quarterback Jack Barta threw for 283 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted twice in the Lumberjacks’ opener.

CLARK FORK — The Knights led 38-6 at halftime of a North Star League win over the Wampus Cats.

“Lakeside is a tough, physical team,” Clark Fork High coach Patrick Young said. “We have a lot of young talent, but we just weren’t ready for that.”

WORLEY — Julian Davis had 10 receptions for 157 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for another 49 yards and a score for the Miners in a North Star League win over the Saints at the Marimn Health Coeur Center.

Freshman quarterback Cooper Miller ran for three touchdowns in the first half for Wallace, which led 62-36 at halftime.

Wallace (2-0, 1-0 NSL) travels to Clark Fork next Friday.

Coeur du Christ has a bye next week and travels to Wellpinit, Wash., on Sept. 13.
