MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Firefighters Local 1258 provided coats to students within the Moses Lake School District, ensuring they are prepared for the colder months ahead, through the union’s Operation Warm initiative according to information sent to the Columbia Basin Herald by MLFD Lt. Jason Koziol.

Firefighters distributed 100 coats to children at Park Orchard, Sage Point and Garden Heights elementary schools, Koziol wrote.

Operation Warm, which has been a cornerstone of the union’s outreach for 15 years, goes beyond simply distributing coats; it symbolizes care and connection with the community, Koziol wrote. Over the years, nearly 3,000 coats have been handed out to children in need, helping alleviate the burden for families while ensuring kids are warm, comfortable and ready to tackle the winter season.

“It’s always a pleasure giving back to this community, especially to children in need, and seeing their smiles,” Koziol wrote. “It’s something we look forward to every year.”

The firefighters also have limited additional coats available for children in need, Koziol wrote. Parents whose child needs a coat are invited to reach out to the Moses Lake Firefighters Local 1258 with the coat size and whether it is for a boy or girl.

“Together, we can help keep every child warm this winter,” Koziol wrote.
