Michael Fain, known by friends as "Mike the mechanic," lived a life of adventure and love. He was born in Utah on June 5, 1958, and passed away in Idaho on Sept. 26, 2024.

Mike was a natural and outstanding mechanic. He loved to work on cars and kept an immaculate garage where he gave his time and expertise, sometimes for free and sometimes for a fair price. Mike's "soft spot" was his downfall. However, his love and empathy are our blessings. In the 20 years he lived in Coeur d'Alene, he touched many lives, made a lasting impression and will never be forgotten.

After a long battle of pain and suffering from alcoholism, cirrhosis and, in the end, cancer, Mike chose to stop the pain for good and return to his loving Heavenly Father. Thank you, Mike, for giving so much of yourself to so many. Thank you for teaching the ones who loved you how to give unconditionally and allow them to serve without judgment or motive.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, several of his 13 siblings and both of his boys, Mike Jr. and Derrick. Many of the family and both boys struggled with the same issues as Mike.

A bright spot in his life was maintaining a close relationship with his granddaughter, Jami Reynolds, and her family in Oklahoma. Looking forward to the day he would be able to visit them gave him hope even in the darkest times.

There will be a celebration of life Dec. 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Fort Sherman Chapel, 332 Hubbard St., Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814
