PREP WRESTLING: Lake City, Post Falls, Lakeland, Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint girls nab titles at season-opening tournaments

• BOYS
POLSON, Mont. — Brycen Duboise (144 pounds), Alden Curto (150), Nathan Booth (175) and Garrett Leonard (215) brought home individual titles for Lake City, which also claimed the team title at the Owen Invitational at Linderman Gymnasium.
Lake City, which was second after the first day, finished with 237.5 points. Libby (Mont.), the leader after the first day, finished second with 177.
“The kids had a really good Day 2, with a lot of tough, gritty, but dominant wins,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “High school kids, they’re always looking for momentum, and it just got to where they didn’t want to let each other down.”
Other Lake City placers were James Swanson (fifth at 110), Caden Ramey (fourth at 126), Josh MacDonald (fifth at 144), Tucker Bridwell (fourth at 157), Caden Kemper (fourth at 175), Cliff Eddington (fourth at 190), James Vincent (second at 215), Sebastian Mosman (second at 285) and Cameron Gray (fourth at 285).
Alexxis Johnson was third at 120, Emily Zuetrong fourth at 130, Justyce Dorn third at 145 in the girls tournament for Lake City.
Post Falls romps to team title
at Sidney Invitational
SIDNEY, Mont. — Post Falls, behind five individual champions, ran away with the Sidney Invitational title at Sidney High.
Logan Loaiza (118 pounds), Rider Seguine (138), Damion Hamilton (165), Trey Smith (175) and Seth Martin (190) claimed titles for Post Falls, which finished with 236.5 points.
“We were really pleased with the way the kids wrestled,” Post Falls assistant coach Dave Herndon said. “Here, you always get tough kids and you’re wrestling kids you probably won’t see again this year. They tend to be more physical and it’s good for us to see that kind of wrestling right away.”
Other Trojan placers were Gage Loftin (second at 110), Matthew Hamilton (sixth at 126), Kyle Miller (third at 157), Kendall Sage (fourth at 215) and Xander Scholes (fourth at 285).
Post Falls also went unbeaten on Friday to claim the duals tournament title.
Lakeland captures
Inland Empire Classic
SPOKANE VALLEY — Lakeland, with 10 pins in the finals, beat Central Valley 67-12 in the championship match to claim the Inland Empire Classic at Central Valley High.
Lakeland beat Mead (Gold) 67-12, University 41-27 and Hanford 54-30 to advance.
Caleb Adams (106 pounds), Zach Teal (106), Carson Leonard (120), Jaren Knopp (126), Austin Howell (150) and Kaleb Hammer (157) went unbeaten for Lakeland.
“The guys have been wrestling tough, gritty and being annoying to wrestle,” Lakeland coach Will Edelblute said. “They’re getting in guys face and being persistent for six minutes and just wrestling hard right now.”
Lakeland faces Lake City and Coeur d’Alene at Coeur d’Alene High on Wednesday.

Griswold Invitational
POTLATCH — Micah Miller (98 pounds), Nash Larsen (106), Justus Peregrina (113), Emmett McLachlan (120) and Carter Newby (132) claimed individual titles for the Vikings, who won the team title at the Dick Griswold Invitational at Potlatch High.
Priest River senior Colm McLaimtaig won the 144-pound title while freshman Billy Rapier placed second at 126 pounds to lead the Spartans to a fourth-place team finish.
McLaimtaig, who won the 2A 138-pound title in 2024 and is riding a 22-match win streak dating back to last season, won all of his matches by pin. Rapier, in his varsity debut, won two matches by pin and won by a major decision before falling just shy in the finals.
Levi Holbrook (98) was second, Liam Pettit (120) third, and Jack Zalewski (113) and Orion Grimes (132) fourth for the Spartans, who compete in the Tri-State Invitational next Friday and Saturday at North Idaho College.
Murphee Balich of Coeur d'Alene won the 114-pound title and St. Maries' JoJane Barta won at 120 in the girls tournament.

Seven Bulldogs claim titles
at Blizzard Invitational
SANDPOINT — Seven different Bulldogs won their weight classes as Sandpoint cruised to a commanding win at The Blizzard Girls Tournament at Sandpoint High.
Mackenzee Donenfeld (100 pounds), Vanessa Hood (126), Avery Inge (132B), Teagan Newsom (145), Zxyloh Johnson (152), Sylvia Becker (185) and Lilli Marti (235) all took home titles for Sandpoint, which finished with 187 points, 53.5 more than runner-up Post Falls.
Violet Henney (107), Emma Garman (120), Izzy Stark (132A) and Kaysha Kimura (165) finished third in their respective weight classes to help the Bulldogs, which placed third at this tournament last year, to victory.
Sandpoint returns to action Saturday at The Lakeland Girls Tournament.
