BOYS SILVER VALLEY TOURNAMENT

WALLACE — Porter Lewis and Cayden Honnerlaw scored 10 points each for the Wildcats in a win over the Bulldogs in a semifinal game in the Silver Valley Tournament at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

“We did a good job of coming out and playing hard,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We sped them up and forced some turnovers. Everyone did a good job of chipping in and doing what we needed to do.” 

Ty Cheney and Radley McDonald scored nine points each for Kellogg.

Timberlake 69 Wallace 65 

WALLACE — A steal by Timberlake and a layup by Payden DeVore gave the Tigers a one-point lead with under a minute left, and Timberlake went on to beat the host Miners to advance to the championship game of the Silver Valley Tournament at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

Seniors Nate Dykeman and Tyler Engelson scored 20 and 17 points respectively for Timberlake. 

The Tigers trailed by more than 20 points before rallying. 

“They came out and stuck it to us; they shot the ball really well," Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said. “The third quarter we figured out how to go inside to the post.” 

Dykeman scored 14 of his 20 in the second half. 

Engelson hit 4 of 4 free throws down the stretch, and Max Simpson hit 2 of 2. 

Cooper Miller scored 22 points, Julian Davis 17 for Wallace.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 

Timberlake 53, Kellogg 44 

WALLACE –– Tyler Engelson scored 26 points, and the Tigers eased away in the second half to beat the Wildcats in the championship game of the Silver Valley Tournament at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

Max Simpson added 13 points for Timberlake, who hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to expand a five-point lead with 4 minutes left. 

Brodie Robinson led Kellogg with 11 points.

PLUMMER — Junior Tyson Charley had 30 of his game-high 40 points in the first half as the Lakeside Knights beat the Wallace Miners 107-43 in the season and Scenic Idaho Conference opener for both schools at Ron Miller Court on Monday. 

Charley, who also had nine assists and seven steals, scored 17 points in the first quarter. 

“We came out a bit sluggish, but midway through the first quarter, we found our stride,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said. “We pressed them a little bit and forced some turnovers.” 

Junior Hallah Peone had 27 points and 10 assists for Lakeside, which hosts Lapwai on Wednesday. 

Sophomore Emmitt Myles scored 12 points, senior Julian Davis 10 points for Wallace.

Dani Henrikson had 16 points, 20 rebounds, five steals and three assists and Jordyn Stutzke 19 points and six rebounds for Kellogg (1-3). 

“We all rebounded the ball really well tonight,” Kellogg coach Jana Nearing said. “We played great. We’ve got a lot of freshmen that are still making their way. I was proud of the hustle tonight.” 

Tylah Lambert scored 15 points for Lakeside.

MOSCOW — Draeden Taylor scored 14 points for the Wildcats, who rallied from a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter before falling to the Bears at Bear Den. 

“In the first half, Moscow’s physicality really was making us more passive,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “For our guys to fight back, it was nice to see. We got back into, but they made their free-throws down the stretch.”

VAN TUNISTRA DUALS  

SPIRIT LAKE –– The Wildcats went 5-0 as a team, as they dominated the field at the season-opening Van Tunistra Duals at Timberlake High School.  

Wrestlers Colton Storey, Wyatt Storey, Carsun Hinkelmann, Trevan Bush, and Chase Scribner all went undefeated on the day, with a handful of their teammates only suffering single losses.  

“Our team showed a lot of grit pulling out the five wins,” Kellogg Head Coach Scott Miller said. “We were shorthanded, had some holes due to injuries which meant we had to forfeit three weights each match, but the kids battled through, got big wins when needed, and most importantly didn't give up extra points in our losses. It was just a really good team performance and a great way to start the season.”

BLIZZARD GIRLS TOURNAMENT 

SANDPOINT –– 107-pounder Zoie Lawson won her weight class, and the Lady Wildcats finished eighth as a team at the Blizzard Girls Tournament at Sandpoint High School. 

Lawson pinned Lakeland’s Teagan Patrick in the first-place match.  

Kellogg’s Brooke Hayes (152) took third, while Kalayah White (145) finished fourth. 

“Our girls had really good performances, wrestled hard all day, and were rewarded with medal performances,” Miller said. “Offensively they really showed positive strides. “We’re very proud of their performances.”
