COEUR d’ALENE — One point separates leader Post Falls from Orting (Wash.) after the first day of the Tri-State Invitational on Friday on the campus of North Idaho College.
Post Falls, with Gage Loftin (106 pounds), Rider Seguine (138), Damion Hamilton (165), Trey Smith (175), Seth Martin (190) and Kendall Sage (215) have the Trojans out front with 194.5 points.
Orting is second with 193.5 points.
“It’s going to be a battle,” said Post Falls coach Jeremy Zender, whose team has six others in the consolation bracket. “I think we’ve put ourselves into a good position to go win a Tri-State title. All of our guys wrestled well, competed hard and were scrapping and fighthing for everything today.”
Gabe Larsen (157) and Brock Armstrong (165) advanced to the semis for Coeur d'Alene, which is tied for eighth with 105 points.
Nathan Booth (175) and Garrett Leonard (215) advanced to the semis for Lake City, which is 14th with 85.5 points.
“Both had really good days,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “Nathan was really dominant today. At this tournament, you don’t expect to see that. He did a lot of really good things today. Garrett, he had some good kids and had to get takedowns to win matches. He gutted it out and won some matches. Nice to see him get pushed because he needs that this time of year.”
Kaleb Hammer (157) advanced for Lakeland, which is 12th with 87 points.
Wrestling resumes today at 9 a.m., with the championship finals at 4 p.m.
