COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Dickinson named All-West Region, JUCO All-American
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 12 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 16, 2024 1:45 PM
Evan Dickinson, Walla Walla CC Soccer
Evan, a 2023 Sandpoint High graduate, was recently named to the 2024 United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division II Men’s All-America Team and All-West Region Team. A defender, Evan led the Warriors, which were 15-3-4 and ranked No. 5 in the country by the United Soccer Coaches National Poll to close out the year, to the second lowest goals allowed average, limiting opposing offenses to just 11 goals in 22 games.
Players on this year’s United Soccer Coaches Junior College All-America Teams will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan., 11, 2025 in Chicago, Ill., in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
Kimbo Yarnell, Spokane CC Soccer
A 2023 Sandpoint High graduate, Kimbo, a midfielder, recently signed a letter of intent to play for Northwest University (NAIA) in Kirkland, Wash. The Lady Eagles were 5-4-5 last season and compete in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Camille Ussher, Lewis-Clark State Track & Field
A 2022 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Camille opened up the indoor season for the Lady Warriors at the 2024 Spokane Indoor Invitational with a new personal best indoor mile time of 5 minutes and 22 seconds, which was good enough to place fourth out of 14 runners. Camille was the top NAIA finisher, only falling to three NCAA Division I athletes while beating out six others; she also bested three NCAA Division II athletes in the process. Lewis-Clark returns to action Jan. 24 and 25 for the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open hosted by the University of Idaho.
