A Batavia man accused of leveling a gun at his ex-partner, her son and a relative during an argument earlier this month pleaded not guilty to a felony charge last week.  

Peter C. Grigg, 58, faces one count of assault with a weapon in Flathead County District Court following the Dec. 5 confrontation at a home near U.S. 2 West in Batavia. He was arraigned before Judge Amy Eddy on Dec. 12.  

Grigg's ex told Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies, who responded to the home about 7:42 p.m., that the confrontation arose after they argued over text while he was at work. She remembered telling him not to come to the house that night and instead stay at a hotel, according to court documents.  

Scared after hearing noises outside the home in the morning, she called a male relative to come to the home. That relative was inside the home with her and her two children when Grigg allegedly marched up onto the porch with a gun in his hand.  

The male relative told authorities he opened the door and Grigg pointed the gun at his chest, according to court documents. The relative raised his hands and backed into the house as Grigg followed. Once inside, Grigg ordered him to sit on the couch, which the relative said he refused to do while a gun was pointed at him.  

Grigg then swept the firearm across the room, pointing it at his ex-partner, her son and then back to the male relative, court documents alleged. Irate, Grigg ordered the son and male relative out of the home. As they left, Grigg pointed his gun at the chest of his ex-partner's son, court documents said.  

"What the [expletive] are you looking at?" he allegedly asked.  

Deputies who met with the son described him as shaking and afraid as he recalled the encounter.  

During a subsequent interview with Grigg, the 58-year-old denied pointing his gun at anyone or making any threats, court documents said. He allegedly admitted holding a firearm during the argument.  

If convicted, Grigg faces up to 20 years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine.
