PREP BASKETBALL: Bonners Ferry boys reach 5-0 with rout of Logos; girls take down St. Maries

Bonners Ferry 76, Logos 35 

MOSCOW — Bonners Ferry, recently ranked No.1 in 4A in the latest Idaho statewide boys basketball media poll, won in blowout fashion again with a 76-35 non-league win over the Logos School in a game held at the University of Idaho's ICCU Arena.

Senior Asher Williams dropped a game-high 37 points and drained three 3-pointers in just three quarters of action while fellow senior Thomas Bateman contributed 15 points and was one of two Badgers to score in all four quarters.

Sophomore Peyton Hinthorn added 11 points and junior Sulay Abubakari six for Bonners Ferry, which led 68-28 after the third quarter buzzer. Head coach Nathan Williams said that it was a great team effort and highlighted senior Brody Rice for orchestrating the office with several assists. 

Bonners Ferry (5-0) will not play again until Dec. 27 when they head to Reardan High for the Lions Club Christmas Tournament.

RATHDRUM — At Lakeland High, sophomore Taren Bateman recorded a team-high 22 points, nine steals and two blocks as the visiting Lady Badgers fell 58-42 to the 5A Lady Hawks if the Inland Empire League.

Senior Sydney Hinthorn added 11 points, three assists and four steals while senior Brooke Petesch had four points and two assists for Bonners Ferry.

Bonners Ferry 61, St. Maries 24 

ST. MARIES — In their second home game in a row, junior Alexys Mierke and sophomore Taren Bateman combined for 22 steals as the Lady Badgers rout the host Lady Lumberjacks for a 61-24 non-league win.

“Alexys Mierke played like a glove on defense,” head coach Sarah Hummel said. 

Offensively, Bateman led the way with 21 points while senior Sydney Hinthorn pitched in 13 points and seven rebounds. 

Despite some foul trouble in the first half, Hummel said she was proud of the way her team shared the ball on the offensive end with everybody knocking down shots.

Sophomore Nollie Hiatt added seven points and two blocks, sophomore Eva Willis and Mierke six points apiece for Bonners Ferry (5-4), which will play host against Flathead Valley on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
