All-Idaho football: Coeur d'Alene's Wheeler named to 6A first team on offense, defense; Murray, Weil, Vanek, Connelly, Miller among other locals honored

Coeur d’Alene High senior Kai Wheeler was named to the 6A first team on offense and defense as the all-Idaho high school football teams were announced this week by The Idaho Statesman newspaper of Boise. 

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound senior was named first team on offense at wide receiver, after catching 66 passes for 1,211 yards and 15 touchdowns. 

Wheeler was named first team on defense as a defensive back, as the cornerback totaled 45 tackles and five interceptions. 

Coeur d’Alene sophomore linebacker Ben Murray was named to the 6A second team. 

5A: Lakeland senior running back Lovie Weil and Lakeland senior offensive lineman Carter Vanek were named to the 5A first team. 

Weil ran for 1,945 yards and 31 touchdowns on 189 carries for the Hawks. 

Vanek, a 6-3, 293-pound guard, recorded 26 pancake blocks and allowed just one sack. 

Lewiston senior defensive back Nathan King was named to the first team, and Bengals senior punter Cole Arlint was named to the second team. 

3A: Senior running back Sawyer Staudt of Priest River was named to the 3A second team. 

Grangeville had two first-team selections in senior running back Cooper Poxlietner and senior wide receiver Thain Williams. 

1A: Coeur du Christ senior wide receiver Ben Connelly, and Wallace freshman quarterback Cooper Miller were each named to the 1A second team. 

The all-Idaho teams were voted on by coaches statewide. The Stateman publishes the results.
