Brawlers, Bravettes take second at CMR tourney

GREAT FALLS — Flathead wrestling brought home a pair of second place finishes at the CMR Holiday Classic Saturday.
The Braves Brawlers finished with 228 points, only behind Billings West with 286.5. Great Falls was third with 211.5 points.
Hunter Arriaga picked up the lone victory for Flathead at 132 pounds with a 7-2 decision over Billings Skyview’s Chris Grossman.
Diesel Thompson finished in second at 126, as did Caleb Poe-Hatton at 110. Kellen Downing (118), Daniel Evert (138) and Lane Chivers (165) each brought home third place results.
Glacier’s Aiden Sweat nabbed a victory at 110 with a 14-0 major decision over Poe-Hatton. The Wolfpack boys finished 21st in the team competition with 70 points.
On the girls side, the Bravettes finished with 248.5 points, behind Billings Senior at 276.5 and ahead of Billings Skyview at 214.
“Coming in 2nd to Billings Senior and only bringing half the team, we're excited to see how the girls continue to progress this season,” Bravettes coach Amber Downing said. “Freshman Kyra McMahone placing 4th and Sophomore Josie Olszewski placing 7th have showed huge growth in just 2 weeks and are gaining ground on the competition with each match.”
Bella Downing (115) and Julia Kay (130) picked up wins for Flathead, Downing winning her second consecutive title at the Holiday Classic.
Kiera Lackey placed third at 135 for Flathead.
Glacier's girls finished 41st in the team standings with 19 points.
Ronan ended the tournament in fourth as a team with 141 points. Tirza TwoTeeth grabbed the win at 235.
