COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Casey receives multiple All-American honors

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 4 months AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | December 23, 2024 3:30 PM

Brandon Casey, University of Montana Football

A 2020 graduate of Sandpoint High, Brandon was recently named to the Stats Perform FCS All-American Second Team and earned an AP All-American Honorable Mention. He is now a two-time First Team All-Big Sky selection and a three-time Academic All-Big Sky honors recipient. According to the Montana Sports Information Department, he’s helped the offensive line pave the way for 2,741 rushing yards this season — the most the Griz have rushed for in the past four years — and has helped to move the chains 305 times to date in 2024.

Evan Dickinson, Walla Walla CC Soccer

Evan, a 2023 Sandpoint High graduate, recently received United Soccer Coaches Academic All-American honors. To be named a USC Scholar All-American at a Junior College, a student-athlete must be a sophomore in athletic standing, have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale throughout their career, and play a minimum of 75% of all the team’s games and be an elite player as supported by playing honors and contributions to the team.

Jerzie Bair, College of Idaho Volleyball

A 2019 Bonners Ferry High graduate, Jerzie was recently one of four Lady Yotes to be named to the CSC (College Sports Communicators) Academic All-District Team. In order to achieve this honor, student-athletes must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 and participate in at least 90% of the team's games.

Helena White, Napa Valley College Basketball

Helena, a 2024 Priest River High graduate, continues to produce for the Storm. Over the past five games dating back to Dec. 12, she has recorded a combined 18 rebounds, four points (2-2 FG), two assists and two blocks. Most notably, eight of her rebounds, five of which were offensive, came in a 72-52 home win over Diablo Valley. Napa Valley (5-8) returns to action Dec. 30 when they host Shasta.
