1A GIRLS STATE PLAY-IN: Clark Fork falls shy of Rockland for state bid

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | February 10, 2024 9:45 PM

Rockland 53, Clark Fork 32

McCALL – The Wampus Cats kept it close in the first half, but ended up falling to Rockland in a 1A state championship play-in game held at McCall-Donnelly High Saturday afternoon.

Clark Fork started the game trailing 15-1, but responded with a 14-2 run. Heading into halftime, the Wampus Cats were behind by just two points. However, the Rockland outscored Clark Fork 33-14 in the second half to punch their ticket to the 1A state tournament.

“Our second quarter was the best we've ever played,” senior Lily Reuter said. “We worked the ball and found open shots.”

Fellow senior Eloise Shelton had similar thoughts in her final game as a Wampus Cat.

“I'm so proud of each and everyone of these girls,” Shelton said. “It was such a fun game. Everyone was doing their job and working hard. We stayed right there with them all the way until the end.”

Clark Fork was led by sophomore Amie Matteson who scored nine points. Seniors Shelton (7), Amari Printz-Hay (6), and Reuter (7) combined for 17 points

Clark Fork finished their season with a 7-11 record.
