Free writing workshop for youth set

I’ve spent most of my life in northeastern Washington and graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2021. After that, I spent roughly two years working for a small online newspaper in North Seattle before realizing big city living wasn’t for me. Me and my pup, Kodak, headed east, where we eventually landed in Sandpoint. When I’m not writing, you can find me spending time exercising and taking photos. I ran two half marathons in high school and after spending the past few years recovering from various injuries, I’m hoping to complete my first full marathon by the end of the year. I also love any outdoor activity, none of which would be complete without my dog. Kodak and I love going for walks and hikes, and I can’t wait to try to convince him to get in my kayak and spend the hot months of the year on Lake Pend Oreille. While he’s not a fan of baths, he sure does love chasing the ducks. | February 15, 2024 1:00 AM
SANDPOINT — Have a teenager who wants to be the next Jane Austen or Nathaniel Hawthorne? Sandpoint Writers on the Lake is putting on a free creative writing workshop for tweens and teens to learn new skills that will enhance their writing.
Next Friday from 3 to 5 p.m., kids between the ages of 12 and 18 can join in on the free class. The program will be taught by author Tom Reppert as “a prelude and inspiration for” the annual community writing contest March 23.
No registration is necessary for the writing workshop and children of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.
“In these youth-focused workshops, writers will plunge into a playground of prompts to inspire their creative expression,” Writers on the Lake staff said. “In a series of exercises, we’ll explore concepts from character development to scene and setting, from momentum to tension, and guide our young writers to the limitless potential of their minds.”
The workshop will be held at the East Bonner County Library in Sandpoint. For more information, email sandpointwriters@gmail.com.
