Helena Capital flipped their game against Flathead on its head, holding the Bravettes to just three points in the fourth quarter to pick up a Western AA road victory Friday.

Kennedy Moore scored a team high 11 points for the Bravettes (4-11, 1-10 in Western AA games), who scored the first 13 points of the game.

Taylor Sayers led all scorers with 19 points for the Bruins (6-9, 5-6), who battled back to take the 40-30 win.

“We played a really good defensive game,” said Bravettes coach Kaylee Fox. “We limited them on their offensive rebounds and that was something we had been working on this week.”

Early on the Bravettes defense did not allow anything, keeping Capital scoreless for almost nine minutes of the game.

On the offensive end, Moore got Flathead rolling with one of her three 3-pointers late in the first quarter to make it 11-0.

In the second quarter the Bruins found their offensive footing with Sayers and Katie Sheridan knocking down shots cutting the deficit to 17-11 at the half.

Out of the break Sayers kept her touch, knocking down a three on the first possession of the third. Midway through the quarter Anna Cockhill gave the Bruins their first lead at 23-21 with a long jumper from the left baseline.

Capital kept the momentum up into the fourth quarter as a 10-0 run opened the lead out to 38-27. Moore knocked down another three late for the Bravettes, but offensively they could not find a rhythm to claw their way back.

“We missed a few shots, and lost some confidence,” said Fox. “I don’t know what the big difference was.”
