EPHRATA — Two people died in a house fire late Wednesday night, according to a statement from the Ephrata Fire Department.
At about 11:20 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the 500 block of D Street Southeast, according to the statement. Upon arrival, fire crews observed a fully engulfed double-wide mobile home. Grant County Fire District 13 was added to the call to assist with suppression efforts.
Two residents of the home, both women in their 70s, were unable to escape the blaze, the EPD wrote. Their names have not been released pending identification by Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison.
The initial fire investigation is focused on the use of multiple space heaters, according to the statement, and a lack of working smoke detectors was a contributing factor.
