BONNERS FERRY — Candidate filing for the May 21 primary election opens on March 4 and ends March 15.

Currently, many candidates have announced their candidacy, but have yet to file a declaration of candidacy.

Boundary County elections for the May 21 primary included Boundary County Sheriff and County Commissioner District 1 (west of U.S. 95).

Those who have announced their candidacy for the Boundary County sheriff’s position include Jon Van Gesen, Dave Schuman and Travis Stolley. Incumbent Sheriff Dave Kramer is not seeking re-election.

To fill Commissioner Wally Cossiart’s (District 1) seat, Lester “Les” Pinkerton has announced his candidacy.

For the House of Idaho Representatives, Districts 1B and 1A are also up for election.

For District 1B, incumbent Sage Dixon is not seeking re-election. Candidates include Charles Lowman, Jalon Peters and Jane Sauter (no relation to Mark Sauter).

District 1A candidates include incumbent Mark Sauter and Cornel Rasor.

The presidential primary has been moved from the May 21 election due to new legislation. Instead, political parties will run their own caucuses with the Republican Presidential Primary taking place on Saturday, March 2.

Boundary County’s Republican Presidential Primary Caucus will be held at Boundary County Middle School on March 2 at 11 a.m.

The Idaho Democrat Presidential Caucus is May 23.
