COEUR d’ALENE — Ross Lindsey only moved to Coeur d’Alene a month ago. Already, the town has made a lasting impression.

Because when he left work Tuesday night, he found something on his car. 

No, not a ticket.

Two pink roses and a handwritten note. One said, “You are love” with a drawing of a small heart. The other, “You’re so very loved.”

Lindsey turned to a co-worker, wondering why roses were left for him. Then, he noticed that other vehicles in the downtown lot by McEuen Field had roses, one or two, and notes attached to door handles.

He walked around to check, and sure enough, pink roses and notes adorned each of around 40 to 50 vehicles.

It was neatly done.

“Somebody took their time out of their day to do it,” he said. “It was wholesome. It was different."

The notes included short phrases: 

“You are enough.”

“You are so welcome.”

Some included Bible verses.

‘“I am he who will sustain you.” — Isaiah 46:4.

“Do not be afraid for I am with you. Do not be discouraged, for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you.” — Isaiah 41:10

Lindsey, who lived in Spokane and then Seattle for a bit, moved to Coeur d’Alene for the fishing. Both the angling and the town have been everything he hoped.

That someone would place roses and notes on cars just to bring a smile to others, he said, was amazing.

“An unsung hero,” he said.

Such kind gestures, he said, shouldn't go unnoticed because they can benefit a community more than people realize.

It absolutely lifted Lindsey's evening. 

“I felt pretty special last night," he said Wednesday.

So did his mother, because he gave her the roses. And yes, she loved them.

“It boosted her day," Lindsey said.
