MOSCOW — Once the shots started to fall, it came together enough to keep things going the right direction for the Lake City boys on Wednesday night.

Junior Reese Strawn hit a pair of free throws with 12.2 seconds remaining for the Timberwolves, who held off the Bears in a nonleague game 50-48 at Bear Den.

Moscow cut the deficit to 49-48 with 5.2 seconds remaining before Strawn hit another free throw to extend the lead. Lake City junior guard Cason Miller stole an inbounds pass at midcourt, allowing the Timberwolves to run out the clock.

“It was a little closer than we wanted it to be,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We didn’t get the job done the way we wanted to. We struggled to play with some urgency early on, but once we started to make some shots things started to go better. Moscow is a tough place to play, but we didn’t shoot the way we’ve done it all year.”

Strawn finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, senior Braydn Arrieta had 18 points, four rebounds and four steals for Lake City (8-4), which was without starting post Jordan Carlson due to illness.

“I’m proud of our guys for finding a way to win,” Anderson said. “We need to play with some more urgency because at the end of the year, we’ll have to get through a game like this to keep going.”

Ian Hillman scored 21 points for Moscow (4-6).

Lake City returns to action on Jan. 12 in the Fight for the Fish spirit game at home against Coeur d’Alene.
