PREP WRESTLING: McLaimtaig brothers thrive at Rollie Lane
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 11 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 6, 2024 6:30 PM
NAMPA — Priest River’s Caeden and Colm McLaimtaig are solidifying themselves in the record books. At the renowned Rollie Lane Wrestling Tournament held at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa this Friday and Saturday, Colm picked up his 100th career varsity win while Caeden, who picked up his 100th career varsity win in early December, placed sixth in the 152-pound bracket.
Exactly 100 different schools attended this year’s tournament. Overall, 93 boys teams and 75 girls teams were fielded. The best of Idaho, Washington, California, Oregon, Utah and Nevada were represented, making the McLaimtaig brothers' achievements that much more impressive.
Caeden reached the semi-finals after winning four straight matches. After some tough consolation matchups, he finished sixth in the 64-man bracket. Caeden won two matches via decision and two by pin. He pinned Steven Christensen of Riverton (1:56) in round one and Ronan Brown of Owyhee (5:14) in round three. In round two, he defeated Brady Johns of Mountain View via decision (5-2) and Ivan Ivanov of Eagle (9-4) in the quarterfinal. He finished the tournament with a solid 4-3 record.
Colm went 3-2 on the weekend in the 138-pound bracket. In the first round, he picked up his 100th career varsity win against Bradyn Snyder of Lowry by pin (1:15). After falling in round two, he picked up two wins in the consolation bracket. Colm pinned both Oliver Russell of Chiawana (1:30) and Andrae Ramirez of Meridian (2:15).
According to trackwrestling.com, Colm is now 26-6 on the season, Caeden is 25-5, which makes them some of the top wrestlers in Idaho’s 1A/2A classification.
