PREP BASKETBALL: Balanced Timberlake girls top North Idaho Christian

SPIRIT LAKE — Kursten McKellips scored 15 points to lead three Timberlake players into double figures, and the Tigers went on to beat the visiting North Idaho Christian Royals 59-40 in nonleague play Monday night.
Marissa Needs added 11 points, Diana Nelson 10 for Timberlake (10-3), which jumped out toa 24-14 lead after one quarter.
“Our balance was good — almost five players in double figures,” said Timberlake coach Matt Miller, who had two players score nine points each. “We have a lot of work to do on the defensive end if we want to be really good.”
Jennifer Peterson scored 12 points, Symone Pilgrim 11 for North Idaho Christian (15-1).
“They played really hard,” Miller said of the Royals. “They made a run in the second quarter, cut it to nine … they did a good job moving the ball.”
Timberlake is scheduled to travel to Medical Lake on Wednesday.
North Idaho Christian plays Pullman Christian on Friday at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.

Cyrus Coppinger had eight points, 10 rebounds and four steals for Christian Center School (5-4, 4-3 MCL), which is scheduled to play Immaculate Conception on Wednesday at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake.
Seth Hathaway led Pullman Christian (6-1, 5-1) with 19 points.
