PREP WRESTLING: Coeur d'Alene third after first day at Rocky Mountain Classic

MISSOULA, Mont. — Coeur d’Alene’s Rocco White (103 pounds) and Colton Tucker (145) advanced to the championship match in their weight class at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic at Sentinel High.
“We’ve still got 10 of the 12 guys in the placing rounds that can’t finish worse than sixth, so it was a great bounce-back from Rollie Lane for us,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “Colton, it was a great win for him. He really controlled his semifinal match. It was a good effort by everyone.”
Coeur d’Alene is third with 143 points, trailing Ronan (144.5) for second place.
Moffat added that 10 to 12 teams were unable to travel due to hazardous road conditions.
Nathan Booth (152) and Garrett Leonard (205) advanced to the finals for Lake City, which is eighth with 78 points.
Mead leads the 13-team tournament with 227 points.
In the girls tournament, Lake City’s Alexxis Johnson (120) and Madi Cook (132) advanced to the finals, as did Coeur d’Alene’s Cara Brown (138) and Brooklyn Anderson (152).
Post Falls unbeaten after
first day at home duals
POST FALLS — Tournament host Post Falls won three times in its pod during the first day of the 27th annual River City Duals at The Arena.
Post Falls beat Shadle Park 74-10, Sandpoint 72-8 and Kellogg 55-15 to advance to the Gold Championship bracket.
Wrestling resumes today at 9 a.m., with championship finals at 4 p.m.
