I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | January 18, 2024 1:00 AM

GIRLS

MISSOULA — The final match of the day ended up deciding the winner of the Hellgate Girls Invitational held Friday and Saturday at Hellgate High.

In a classic “North Idaho showdown,” Lilli Marti of Sandpoint pinned Hallie Hartman (8-6) of Bonners Ferry in the third round of the third-fourth-place heavyweight match to help the Bulldogs capture the championship trophy.

The Badgers took second with 121 points, behind Sandpoint with 130 points.

Senior Aubrey Wells (145, 8-4) and sophomore Nevaeh Therrien (114, 18-3, 3-1) led the Badgers placing second.

Wells earned a bye and went 3-1 until being pinned in the finals by Hattie Morrow of Missoula Big Sky/Loyola Sacred Heart.

Therrien also went 3-1, earning a bye before falling 3-0 to Libby Roberts of University by pin in the finals.

Junior Sofia Brown (132, 19-3) and freshman Eva Willis (185, 6-2) notched third place. Emma Roberts (152, 12-7) and Hallie Hartman (HWT) took fourth. Aubree Graves (145, 15-7) finished in fifth with Ireland Grady (120, 7-9) and Rylann Lewis (152, 6-9) taking third.

“Sandpoint came into this morning in third place and just rose to the occasion,” said head coach Valerie Johansen. “They each battled physically and mentally today. I continue to be amazed by this group of young women and how well they represent womens wrestling.”

Bonners Ferry made a class act move after the tournament ended. The team offered Sandpoint a ride home with them after hearing the Sandpoint bus had broken down.

“It was pretty amazing to be on a bus with the top two teams of the tournament, both of which are from North Idaho.”
