Music meets mental wellness

COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra will present its Storytime Adventures Family Concert at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Schuler Performing Arts Center on the North Idaho College campus.
The concert will be conducted by Concertmaster Phillip Baldwin and will feature a guest performance by the North Idaho Youth Symphony.
Audience members will experience "The Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Golden Windows," narrated by Verne Windham.
Tickets include "Dialogues with Danh," an enriching pre-concert event beginning at 6:30. This 30-minute dialogue features conductor Danh Pham, a musician, music therapist and subject matter expert, fostering insightful conversations. This concert’s focus is on music and mental health, as expressed by Lora Whalen, board chair of the Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra.
"Mental health is important to the overall wellbeing of all of us, as individuals, families and teams," Whalen said in a news release. "Please join us to learn how music can positively affect our stress levels.”
Music therapist and Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra violinist Judith Pinkerton will introduce mental health solutions based on 30 years of clinical experience and international presence training other clinicians and diverse community sectors.
Dr. Claudia Miewald, a psychiatric clinical practitioner with 35 years of experience, will present on challenges of mental health and positive solutions as it collides with music.
Baldwin will also contribute his expertise. As a professor of violin and orchestras, Baldwin’s passion for the intersection between music and literature has led to international presentations.
