A lot of tourists stop in St. Ignatius to check out the old Mission cathedral. Probably even a few who stop to watch some Mission basketball.

The Superior High School boys and girls basketball teams aren’t tourists and after Friday evening, they may not list St. Ignatius as a desired tourist “must see”.

Friday was not good for the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats as both teams fell to their Mission hosts in Western 7B conference play.

The Lady Bobcats lost to the now 8-2 Lady Bulldogs, 57-29, while the Bobcat boys dropped a close one to previously winless Mission 42-39.

The Lady Cats fell behind their hosts 14-9 after one quarter of play, then were swamped in the second stanza as the Lady Bulldogs outscored them 23-9 on their way to a 37-18 halftime lead.

Mission outscored Superior 20-11 in the second half to wrap up their seventh straight victory. They are 3-0 in 7B action and are in a first place tie with Eureka atop the conference standings.

The Lady Bulldogs had three players score in double digits, with both Kieran Incashola and Kason Page tossing in 14 points apiece. Ellannah Flat Lip added 13 to the Mission effort.

The loss dropped Superior to 0-3 in the conference and 3-6 on the season.

The night cap of the two game set was a different story as both teams engaged in a back-and-forth game with multiple tied scores and lead changes.

After one quarter, the Cats and Dogs were deadlocked at 10 points each. Superior managed to outpoint Mission by one, 9-8, to enter the halftime break with a slim-as-it-gets 19-18 lead.

Superior added two points to their lead in the third quarter as both teams matched each other bucket for bucket.

Entering the final quarter of regulation play, Superior led 31-28.

But the Bulldogs, desperately seeking their first win of the year, found a way to slowly pull ahead of the Bobcats over the final eight minutes on their way to season victory number one.

Landon Walks Over Ice scored 18 points to lead all scorers in the Bulldogs’ win. Teammate Lex LaFrombois chipped in 12 for Mission.

Superior goes to Eureka this Friday for a game against the Lions, then returns home Saturday night for an encounter with Seeley.
