COEUR d’ALENE — Kootenai County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to accept a guaranteed maximum price amendment of $30.4 million for the ongoing Justice Center expansion project.

The county broke ground in September 2023 on the 60,000-square-foot expansion to the Justice Building, which will add three courtrooms and facilities for the Sheriff’s Office, district court employees, prosecutors and other county staff.

Construction is expected to be completed in May 2025. Bouten Construction Company is the contractor for the project.

The amended contract commissioners approved Tuesday includes an itemized list of the costs associated with the project, broken down into different categories.

For example, about $4.6 million is earmarked for interior finishes, a broad category that includes items like doors, flooring, drywall and signage, as well as jury seating, caulking and more.

Mechanical work, including fire sprinklers, plumbing and HVAC systems, will cost about $3.5 million, as will electrical work.

The cost of site work will be about $1.2 million, while the building structure will cost about $5.6 million.

“I’m excited to see the progress now,” Commissioner Leslie Duncan said Tuesday.

“We are, too,” said Jon Stob, a project manager at Bouten Construction.
